You decide how long i-Connect keeps message content. You can erase one person at any time, or ask us to delete the whole organisation. Each of these removes different things, so check what stays.

Set how long content is kept

What it's for: keeping customer message content only for as long as you need it. The default is 180 days. You can choose 30 to 730 days.

Before you start: you need to be an Owner or Admin. Content removed by this setting can't be brought back, so export anything you need first.

  1. Go to Settings → General.
  2. Under Opt-in and opt-out, enter a number in Keep message content for (days).
  3. Select Save changes.

What happens next: a job runs every night at about 03:00 IST. It removes content older than your setting. When it removes anything, it adds a RETENTION_APPLIED entry to your audit log.

What can go wrong: a number outside the range is refused with "Retention must be 30–730 days". If you shorten the period, older content goes at the next run. If you lengthen it, content already removed doesn't come back.

What is removed and what stays

Age is measured from when each record was created. For a conversation, it's measured from its last message.

RecordRemovedStays
MessagesMessage content and the raw data received from Meta.Who, when, direction, message type and delivery statuses.
Send records, once finished (sent, failed, skipped or no answer)The message body and its preview.Recipient, status and times.
ConversationsThe last-message preview becomes [redacted].The conversation, its status and its labels.
Form and Flow submissionsAnswers, phone number, IP address, browser and referring page. The consent snapshot: the text shown, its version, the outcome and the time.
Emails to customersAddress, subject and body. The record that an email was sent.

This setting doesn't touch contacts, consent history, internal notes, media files or report totals. Reports keep working because they read daily totals, not message content.

The audit log has its own period, set by your plan.

Erase a contact

What it's for: answering a person's request to have their data removed, under India's DPDP Act.

Before you start: you need to be an Owner or Admin. Erasing can't be undone. If the person asked for a copy, select Download their data on their profile first. You erase one contact at a time.

  1. Open the contact's profile.
  2. Select Erase…
  3. Type ERASE in the box.
  4. Select Erase permanently.

What happens next: the contact shows as Erased contact, and any sequences they're in end.

RemovedKept
  • From the contact: name, WhatsApp name, number, country, WhatsApp IDs, email, owner, custom fields and tags.
  • From their messages: content, raw data and sender details.
  • Their conversations and internal notes, which are deleted.
  • From their form and Flow submissions: answers, number, IP address, browser, referring page and confirmation code.
  • From emails to them: address, subject and body.
  • From messages sent to them: the number, body and preview. Anything still queued is cancelled.
  • From their orders: name, number and address.
  • From their bookings and abandoned checkouts: name and number.
  • A one-way hash of their phone number, and of their email if they had one.
  • Their consent history, now linked to the hash. This is the legal record.
  • The consent snapshot on their submissions.
  • An empty contact record marked as erased, and message delivery data.
  • Their orders' items and amounts, for your accounts, with no name, number or address.
  • A CONTACT_ERASED entry in the audit log.

A hash can't be turned back into a number or an email. i-Connect only compares it, so a later import can't add that person back.

What can go wrong: messages already delivered stay on the person's phone. i-Connect can't remove them.

Delete the organisation

What it's for: closing your organisation and deleting its data. There's no screen for this in the dashboard. The Owner asks us by email.

Before you start: export what you want to keep (below).

  1. The Owner writes to support@i-connect.world from the email address on their i-Connect account, with the organisation's name.
  2. We confirm the request with the Owner.

What happens next:

  • A 30-day window starts. Sending stops. i-Connect is closed except for billing pages and the Owner's contact export.
  • After 30 days, the nightly job deletes your data and media files, and removes i-Connect's access to your WhatsApp Business Account.
  • What we keep: invoices, subscriptions, monthly usage and consent records. The organisation stays as a record marked deleted, because invoices refer to it. Audit log entries last until their own period ends.

What can go wrong: if the request was a mistake, write to us within the 30 days. Deleting from i-Connect doesn't delete your WhatsApp Business Account, phone number or templates at Meta. You manage those in WhatsApp Manager.

The full process is in our Data Deletion Instructions.

Transfer ownership

There's no screen for this in the dashboard either. The Owner writes to support@i-connect.world from the email address on their account, naming the organisation and the member who should take over.
